Wizz Air adds 3 destinations to its Larnaca network
Wizz Air on Thursday announced the addition of three new destinations from/to Larnaca.
There will be new routes to Oslo, Tel Aviv and Kharkov along with the allocation of a third airplane to its Larnaca base, Wizz Air said in a statement.
Besides the new routes, Wizz Air will increase the frequency of the Larnaca-Wroclaw route. Seats for the new routes can already be booked on wizzair.com or on the airline’s mobile app from as low as EUR 19.99, starting operations on March 30, 2021.
“After a challenging 2020, in which holiday opportunities were limited due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this announcement will open the door for tourists to spend their holidays on the stunning island of Cyprus and support its economy by ramping up tourism. Meanwhile Cypriots will have the chance to explore these great destinations,” the statement said.
According to the airline’s latest financial report, Wizz Air suffered a €116 million ($140.5 million) quarterly loss in the third quarter of the fiscal year 2021 (fiscal year ends in March). The company also reported a significant decrease in passenger demand, as it carried only 2.3 million travelers throughout the quarter. Compared to the same period in 2019, the passenger numbers fell by 77 per cent from 10 million. As a result, its revenue fell by 76.5 per cent to €149.9 million ($181.6 million).
Jozsef Varadi, the Chief Executive of the airline, said that during the third quarter, Wizz Air was focused on its market position and the main goal for the air carrier was to protect the liquidity while governmental restrictions worldwide severely obstructed air travel.
With today’s announcement, by this summer the airline will have a fleet of three modern, state-of-the-art Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft at its Larnaca base.
“Wizz Air remains highly committed to Larnaca, Cyprus and to offering great services paired with low fares to its distinguished passengers. We know that the demand for traveling is greater than ever before. To satisfy this need, we are delighted to offer a number of new routes which will support the swift ramp up of Cyprus’ tourism and economy. We are delighted to offer flexibility to our passengers and provide options which guarantee that changes to the booking can be made easily and quickly any time, even up to three hours prior to the flight. With our enhanced protective hygiene measures on board we welcome passengers to fly on our ultra-modern fleet while enjoying Wizz Air’s great onboard service,” said Andras Rado, Senior Communications Manager at Wizz Air, in the statement.
